First item of the evening… we’ve got a winner of the Eden’s Bouquet outfit!
Kinda cool that the first to respond is also the winner huh? Congrats Jocelin! Email me with your address :)
Second item is a model casting call! I have a shoot coming up on April 16th in Portland OR that I will need 6 little girls for. A group of amazing designers has gotten together to collaborate on a line and I *pinch myself* get to shoot it!! If you have a 6 yr old (or any age as long as she wears a slim 6) that is great in front of the camera, can take direction easily & will work well with five other little girls then please email me with a picture & little description. I am definitely looking for a wide range of look, ethnicity, coloring, personality etc. You can get me at shannon@shannonsewell.com and in the subject line write ‘small nation’. Thank you!!!
Lastly… wanted to mention that I am lucky enough to have TWO hosts in the San Francisco area in May for my workshop so I get to open it up to twice as many people & offer two different types of days to choose from. We are about half full on both so just email me if you want to get in on those last slots! More info here. shannon@shannonsewell.com, subject ‘santa cruz’ or ‘san francisco’ :)
Hope everyone is having a lovely week… I have loved all the FB and comment stories you have shared through the last couple of give aways. You are all truly amazing people and inspire me daily. Thank you… :)
**scroll to the bottom to win an outfit from Eden’s Bouquet!!
My friend Lisa (who created the circus fabulousness here) asked me to photograph a hat for her. I jumped into my client archive to find the perfect little model and instantly thought of this little girly. I haven’t photographed her since she was two and man-oh-man have I been missing out! So I officially moved her from ‘client’ tab to ‘model’ tab and I am thinking you are going to be seeing a lot more of her around ;)

There is a lot of travel on my schedule and I am always looking for a fun, quaint little places to take the kids… so leave a comment with your very favorite place to take your kids or your favorite vacation memory as a child. I’ll pick a random winner on Thursday!!
Jocelin: My favorite place to take my kids is the place I most loved to visit as a child, it's property my Grandpa owns in Southern Utah--full of red rock narrow caves, sand, a river for swimming, arrow heads, geodes, lizard & snakes, endless wonders for children :) (03.22.2011 05:50am)
ashley machado: My favorite vacation memory: When I was a child, Saturday breakfast was like clock work, we would go out to eat and think of some fun places to drive to in and around town. One fine Saturday morning my mom and dad told my sister and I "we are going for a little drive to the country". It was about 2 hours later did my sister and I realize that we were still on our drive to the "country" and the "country" ended up being the beach! It was the happiest and most surprised my sister and I had ever been as youngsters. My parents had our clothes packed for us and it was nothing but fun in the sun that weekend. Best memory ever. (03.22.2011 06:10am)
Renee Hindman: My favorite memory as a kid was traveling across country in our motorhome. We would camp the entire way hitting all of the National Parks. To this day, our family still camps together! (03.22.2011 06:24am)
mindy: My favorite place is a cabin by a lake that we go to every year. My son loves it so much and it just feels my heart listening to him talk about it all year long. I know we are making precious memories.... (03.22.2011 07:10am)
Chandra Ferguson: My favorite place to go in the summer is South Twin Lake outside of South Bend, OR....I have tons of childhood memories of camping there with my family summer after summer...Now my hubby and I along w/ Grandma, Grandpa, ect...go over and camp in the summer...My kiddos get to create some of the same memories I had as a child...swimming in the lake, fishing, catching little baby fish with a net and just having fun getting dirty:) (03.22.2011 07:24am)
Rose: Ooooh the giggling little girls! What's not to love about them and that is such an adorable outfit too. Loved the hat, makes me giggling too. I could tell you about my favorite place to go when I was a child, but that would bring you all across the pond in the Romanian mountains... :) (03.22.2011 07:31am)
Michaela Spodniakova: My favourite place as a child was one lake in Slovakia where we used to travel for a vacation with the whole family. That hat on these photos is fabulous, btw!! (03.22.2011 08:26am)
nicole lubin: my absolute favorite place is our vacation home on the chesapeake bay. it's on seahaven drive, so we call the house seaheaven. it's just a tiny fishing cottage, but we have no tv, no video games there. it's great quality family time, playing uno, connect 4, the kids having snail races, catching crabs, imagining a fallen tree is their pirate ship and having treasure hunts. great fun! (03.22.2011 11:01am)
megan moore: Oh, how cute! You do get the sweetest models. :-) My favorite vacation spot as a kid was on Cape Cod. We'd go for a couple of weeks every summer, and it was just awesome. Bike rides, days on the beach building sandcastles & walking on the jetty, "fancy" dinners at crab shacks--it was all so fun. (03.22.2011 11:57am)
Vy: We've always vacationed in the Outer Banks and now that my in-laws live there year round, we go all the time. I love taking the kids out on the dock where they pretend to crab and fish and watch the sunset :) (03.22.2011 12:08pm)
amy lenhart: favorite place has to by my parents cottage!! love it up there right on the lake..so quiet and beautiful!!! amazing trails for hiking!!! my kids spend the entire day at the water catching minnows! (03.22.2011 12:45pm)
Shannon @ Lifelong Impressions: My favorite thing to do as a child was camping! My favorite place to take the kids is anywhere we can travel to. They are seasoned little travelers. When we arrived at our home airport after a New Year trip my son {age 2} asked if we could get back on an airplane to go somewhere else instead of going home. (03.22.2011 12:57pm)
Trina Weingarat- VioletRay Photography: My favourite place to go just to relax and enjoy life is Yachats, OR. 7 miles of white sand beach in a lovely fishing town just 28 miles south of Newport... its the perfect place to go reflect and enjoy life for what its supposed to be. <3's (03.22.2011 01:15pm)
Jacqueline C: My favorite vacation memory is fishing with my dad. We used to always go camping and fishing for our vacations. I just wanted to spend time with him so I gladly learned how to fly fish! I cherish those memories! (03.22.2011 01:38pm)
cori henderson: My favorite place to go as a child was to Hawaii Kawaii. It had beautiful beaches and amazing places to go hiking and scuba diving. (03.22.2011 02:00pm)
tamsen: my favorite vacation memory is replayed every year when my entire extended family gets together at the same camp in August. The whole family has been going for 27 years and it's always a blast. I love that my children will grow up with the same wonderful memories! Thanks for the opportunity, the outfit is adorable! (03.22.2011 02:00pm)
kristine: my favorite place to take kiddos is the large city park and have a picnic! vacation memory is grandmas farm - every summer getting into loads of trouble! (03.22.2011 02:42pm)
Kathy: Oh man, that hat is just gorgeous! I love the little wrist lace cuffs and she has such great personality! Beautiful little girl! (03.22.2011 03:43pm)
Janet Pliszka: Sooooo sweet! My favourite spot as a kid was called the French River, over in northern Ontario right in the Canadian Shield. My great grandparents bought a small island there ($300!!!!) many decades ago. It is the ultimate in relaxation. You can canoe, swim (while shivering!!!), fish, pick blueberries, read... ohhh just thinking of it makes me want to go there this year again! (03.22.2011 04:02pm)
Jessica Slingerland: I grew up in the southern part of Ontario, Canada. Each year our parent's would take us "up north" to a cottage! It was surrounded by forests and had a huge lake up front, perfect for swimming and canoeing. Almost every night we'd go down to the local dump, just to watch the bears pick through the garbage. We'd have to stay behind the gate, but watching those magnificent creatures was our favorite part of the entire trip! (03.22.2011 04:31pm)
Mindy: We recently did a road trip to San Juan Islands, Victoria, and Vancouver BC with our two kids and they loved it! (so did we!) (03.22.2011 04:36pm)
Nataly Harris: I've only been there once, but I love Disneyland! I didn't even get to go until I was 16! But we are planning on taking the kids next year (so the littlest one can enjoy it too) and I can't wait! It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me as a child, and I can't wait to introduce it to my children! (03.22.2011 05:29pm)
Sara from L.A.: My favorite place to take the kids on vacation is the Howard Johnson Motel 6 miles away. We grab swim suits and literally head down the road. No fuss. No long drive. A pool with a slide and a Mimi's Cafe in the parking lot. Low maintenance. (03.22.2011 05:38pm)
Deyla Huss Photography: Oh goodness, love that outfit!!! Ok so my fave travel spot with the kidos so far is when we ventured off to Victoria BC, we took a mini Cruise through the San Juan Islands up to Victoria and saw tons of pods of Killer whlaes, it was amazing! then as we arrived up to Victoria, there was so much to see and the gorgeous architecture! Such a fun trip! (03.22.2011 05:45pm)
Kelly: I sadly didn't travel much when I was young - camped at a few local Ontario spots but besides that, didn't venture too far from home. My husband and I however went to Tofino B.C. for our honeymoon and plan on taking our boys there one day soon - it's amazing. (03.22.2011 06:28pm)
Krista R.: We love going to Suncadia in Cle Elum, Washington. It's in the mountains and surrounded by green trees in the summer and white snow in the winter! Lots of outdoor activities there and an awesome pool with 2 waterslides! :) (03.22.2011 06:41pm)
Andrea: I love your photography! A friend of mine and I were chatting and realized we had both found your site. Do you know Kelly Safranski?... (03.22.2011 08:23pm)

Michelle Schmalz: I love taking my kids to the local market!!! Good food, flowers, music, you cant go wrong!! (03.22.2011 09:14pm)
Jennifer DiSalvo: We live in FL so my favorite place to take the kids is the beach! We especially love the Gulf Coast and really enjoy going to the beaches near Clearwater and St. Pete. The beaches in between these two popular beaches are so quiet and perfect for a family! (03.22.2011 09:22pm)
Nancy K: Fave place to take the kids? Anywhere that mom & dad can enjoy too :) Seriously though, I can only stomach so much (i.e. very little) Disney or Nickelodeon stuff, and prefer to go to things like contemporary art museums or festivals (Nuit Blanche, Luminato), outdoor food festivals (great way to tempt them to try diff foods), or free in-store performances at the local record shop. Having said that, the kids equally enjoy a simple scavenging day in the woods, farmer's market, or at the beach! (03.23.2011 02:08am)
Heather F: My favorite spot to take the kids right now is the Dallas Arboretum. My kids love it anytime of the year but especially in Oct when the pumpkin houses are built. Its a beautiful place filled with gorgeous flowers and awesome landscape..the kids and I pack food and have a picnic right out on the lawn. My 6yr old is in total awe of the japenese gardens, that is his most favorite hang out, at the pond with the fish LOL (03.23.2011 03:12am)
Nicole Voth: My favourite place to go as a child was the beach in Hawaii!! Loved the sun and the sand and the water.... MMMMmmm dreaming of it now.... (03.23.2011 03:44am)

Jess Curren: We haven't gone a ton of places with our kids, but we all LOVE camping!! There are some of our favorite campgrounds right in Utah County. Quick, easy, & we make sure to bring the marshmallows. (03.23.2011 04:37am)
Jen S: I love, LOVE Disney World! It, for me, is the greatest place on Earth!! So much so that I recently celebrated my one year anniversary there ... As a child, I had the privilege to visit about every five years, and even after all this time, I still find myself excited to go back and experience it all again. It's the sights, the smell of certain rides and seeing the characters that take me back in time - I know it sounds silly, but I'm looking forward to four years from now when I get to go again! (03.23.2011 12:28pm)
Tami: My favorite place to take my son is to the beach because we don't live anywhere near one! We moved to CO from CA and miss it dearly. My favorite beach to take him to? Kaanapali in Maui.... we love it there. Home away from home. :) (03.23.2011 12:56pm)
Amber DeHaas: BEAUTIFUL photos! I love your work and have been a huge fan for a long time. My favorite vacation memory as a child was a trip to Rosarito, Mexico. My dad woke me and my 3 sisters up at about 4:30am and we headed down to the beach and watched the MOON set. The moon was HUGE and so beautiful. I will never forget it. That was the last vacation with my dad so it holds an extra special memory. Thanks for the chance to win! (03.23.2011 03:00pm)
Nicole Fairweather: My favorite place to go as a child with my family was camping on Georgian Bay in Canada!! We would go back to the same small island every year, and stay for a month (so much fun!) I would love to take my own children when they get old enough and make some great memories for them as well:) (03.23.2011 07:58pm)
Renee Waters: OMG I want that outfit that Rori wore so bad..... PLEASE RANDOM GENERATOR PLEASE RANDOM GENERATOR!!! LOL!! My favorite place to take my kids to the Springs Preserve here in Las Vegas. It is a good place to see nature and feel safe. It is also a fabulous place for taking photos! :) (03.23.2011 08:36pm)
Ashley Madsen: GORGEOUS work as always. She is a stunning little girl. (03.24.2011 03:55am)
Kara Layfield: Um yes...definately a natural model! Seriously cute Shannon! As far as quaint little places we use to go to Ocean City MD when we were little, but if you want quaint...try Rehoboth/Lewes Beaches in DE. Great charm, lots of beach fun and lots of shops! (03.24.2011 02:50pm)
Kristi: the mountains in Southern Alberta, Canada. We went there every summer when I was a kid. now I love to take my kids there! (03.24.2011 11:31pm)
Tina Lynn: fav childhood memory: camping with brothers and dad as a kid....storm comes, rain and windgusts while making breakfast in screen tent, dad yells for us kids to "hold the poles" so the tent doesn't blow over..then lightning strikes, he says drop the poles get in the car. lol I now love camping with my kids. (03.25.2011 12:04am)
sarah: WOW! I adore the one with her fingers on her lips... what a gorgeous model she really has great expressions. I lived in southern california as a little girl. We spent countless weekends visiting the flea market finding cool old furniture or jewelry always stopping and buying the delicious mexican sweet bread and corn on the cob. (03.25.2011 04:28am)
angela hubbard: you keep blowing my mind.. you are so amazing Shannon!!! (04.02.2011 04:27am)
Kattrina H.: MMM..... when we were kids my Dad would take us on trips to old Ghost towns! I loved it! (04.08.2011 08:19pm)

Anne won the lion hat!! & Paige won the adorable Lady Knitster headband… email me with your address guys!! I hope the recipients of your kindness are still basking in the love ;)
And just cause I don’t really know how to post without pictures and I am trying my very best to get through this last session before I leave, I thought I’d share a little sneak peek at my latest session. I have to say I love playing- jumping into story lines with sets & styling… letting kids be creative, imaginative, wonderful little kids. There is something about an intense portrait that gets me every time though. I love simplicity. I love connection. I love capturing these amazingly intense beautiful faces…
Happy Birthday little one ;)
And yes- I am on a Brendan James kick. He has been on repeat the last couple of days. His positive messages make me smile and feel so appropriate right now in my life. So forgive the bombardment of his lyrics for post titles… can’t help myself ;)

Your vision, your experience and your personality is all too familiar with my own. I'm just starting out as a photographer and still learning my camera but I’m learning quickly that photography is more than business for me. It's a creative passion and shooting just to please others does not make me happy. I want my photos to be a work of my ART! Thank you for sharing your story, it really hit home and I hope to be as great as you are someday!!! (03.10.2011 07:40am)
