First up… the winner of the outfit from The Measure is Michelle Q. Email me with your address and I will get it right out to you!! Congrats :)
I get to share a type of shoot I don’t normally get to. Nope- I’m not opening up spots for family shoots. Still just a plain ole kids photographer ;) Lucky for me though, I am my own boss so I get to make executive decisions and make exceptions where i see fit. So I did :) I ventured up into the Snoqualmie area… part of Washington I’ve never been in. And holy heck- it is beautiful. Always in awe of what a paradise the Pacific NW is… so lucky to live here :) I hung with this delightful family playing, s’moring & just enjoying the day…

**check the bottom of the post for the winner of the Flourish Actions gift certificate and for another adorable give away from The Measure!**
I just got back from a whirlwind trip to Minneapolis for a fantastic day put on by Vickey and Teresa (thank you sooo much ladies!!) and can I say that nothing makes you more grateful for 70 degree overcast July days then coming back from 100 degree (but feels like a sweaty 115) midwest heat wave? Although, even thru the dripping sweat, I absolutely find Minneapolis completely charming… such a cute city. The actual workshop was held in Stillwater which, dang… hello inspiration! Definitely going to have to make a trip back to explore (& hang out with all the amazing women I met this trip). We spent most of our day in the studio playing with cuuuute little models all styled up by our hair stylist Jayme & wardrobe designed by The Measure. Ali from Rock the Drop (yes- I now need these in my life) brought us these backdrops… totally took our sets to another level! And for all you lucky readers, she is offering 20% off her backdrops. Just contact her through her site and let her know that you are one of my blog readers :)
Cute, yes?
A lucky reader will get to own the striped dress/toile leggings (size 6) from The Measure just for commenting below and telling me you have the perfect little girl to enjoy it :) I will pick a winner on Wednesday (7/27).
And the winner of the gift certificate is…. Nicole Evans!! Just email me and I will tell you how to get your gift!!

Work flow… let’s talk about it.
I am not a person that likes to spend a lot of time in the digital darkroom. I would much rather be out creating things to shoot or, let’s be honest- doing nothing photography related and living life ;) I have been doing the same basic post processing since 2007 and have gotten it down to a science. There are a couple of things I can guarantee when you look at one of my images… 1) I shot in manual. This is the best way to ensure that you are exposing & creating the images that YOU want (not what the camera thinks is best)… 2) I have edited the shot with one of Nichole Van’s Flourish Actions. Her Essential Color Pop is on every single image you see. Even if I ‘play’ beyond, I use her for a base. There are many FANTASTIC actions sets out there… I just found when I was trying to get my work flow as simple as possible that hers allowed me the greatest control in the least amount of time. I love that you can erase parts of layers, adjust the opacity, turn them completely off… she gives you a bundle of goodness that you can completely individualize to your taste (& video tutorials on how to use them). I also love that she updates her actions and comes out with new creations that are already customized to work with what you have. Aaand she just updated everything! She has a new batching feature with the color pop action I use (loooove… SO much quicker) and all new goodies for you to check out!
Here is where it gets good…
If you go visit her site and then come back and leave a comment on which product you like best and why then you are entered to win a $75 Flourish gift certificate! In addition she is offering my blog readers the coupon code ‘Flourish2011′ for 25% off. If you combine that with her current multi-item discount that will give you up to 50% off. Nice, eh?
You can check out Flourish Emporium here where you can find all of her actions, textures, presets, borders, and templates (plus the new versions of her Essential Color Pop, Essential Black & White, Antique Vintage and Urban action sets that I mentioned). And if you visit her Facebook page here, you can download a freebie action, texture and template!
Hope it this helps some of you with the editing questions that you’ve sent. I really do like to keep things simple (& pretty) so thank you Nichole for creating something that does that perfectly ;)
Don’t forget to check out her new site and comment below to win the gift certificate!! I will announce a winner this Thursday :)

Dreaming Hollow Photography: I have been using Nicole Van's actions for a year and a half now. Since I am an action "junkie" I have bought and tried a bunch of different actions sets from other designers but I have ALWAYS come back to her SOFT COLOR POP action. As has already been mentioned, it offers fantastic tweakablity and it just plain makes my photos look Awesome. Every. Time. The time you save editing is just amazing. And she offers great customer service too. Her texture palette's are one of my very favorite artistic enhancing shortcuts....they are just plain cutting edge cool! Anyone that knows me can attest to my boho nature… I was raised in the PNW- granola and birkenstocks (okay- bare feet in my case) run thru my veins. True beauty to me is a flowy maxi dress and towel dried hair. So when I get to play dress up I immediately think along these beautiful-earthy-goodness lines. Lucky for me I have people like Julie in my life that I can say “hmm… I think I need a hippie skirt” and she gives me this…
I also wanted to mention how thankful I am for the fact that I have so many people that believe in my ‘vision’ and jump right on board when I come to them with an idea for a shoot. I have been absolutely blessed by the ‘yes’ I receive to so many of my ridiculous requests. This time Double T Alpacas gave me free reign of their amazing property to play for the day. Some of the cutest models I’ve worked with ;)

“we’re gonna gather around like it’s my birthday”
Austin Texas has finally been checked off my bucket list. It was definitely my kind of city (all the tattoos, dreads & bikes made me feel right at home, kinda like I was still in Portland… with the heat turned way up). I got to hang out with a funny, sweet, lovely group of women for the day and work with two of my favorite ladies (& genuinely amazing women I know). And it was made all the more special since it was my birthday. I am not a birthday kinda girl (never really enjoyed celebrating… well… myself) but the sweet gestures of everyone around me was just the greatest reminder of what a fabulous group of people I have come to know. I got a little singing… beautiful gifts… an indulgent cupcake or two (thank you Delish for providing the yumminess)… delicious dinner… some chocolate-y good cake (only follow up to cupcakes, right?)… drinks & my favorite story teller (love me some Cheryl Muhr)… calls that made my heart soar… it was a good- strike that- VERY great day :) Just imagine… all that AND a workshop that included things like clothes from the one and only ZozoBugBaby, styling by the amazing ButterflyspArks, models hand picked by the sweetest Texan you’d ever meet- Kristin, shoes by a completely inspiring company launching next month- Chooze Shoes… seriously. A day to top all days. Thank you :)
And just to show you some of the goodness I got to bask in… images from the day :)
