I have a couple of fun things to share today… first off- I was featured in a book that was just published!! You can pick it up on Amazon here. It was so much fun to share a bit about how I do all my sets and share some images of my favorite little models in those sets ;) Looks like it is selling like hot cakes (only 19 left in stock today) so grab it fast ;)
I also have some bee-you-ti-full holiday hair pieces to share from Maya’s Curls… absolute perfection for those holiday photos and parties (looooove them so- even used one in my own Christmas card shoot his year) ;)
couldn’t resist… little sneak peek of the Christmas shoot ;)
Hope everyone is having a lovely holiday season… only three more shoots this year for me! Yippee!! :)
WORKSHOP UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know that travel workshops are on hold for now but for those of you interested (& those that haven’t been able to make it to the places I’ve visited in the past) I am doing an online workshop with The Define School next month. I am REALLY excited about this because we will cover everything that I am passionate about in a three week course that can be done on your time frame (yep- even during those wee hours of the morning that we photographers seem to like so much) and still have plenty of one-on-one time in a private forum. You can find more info on my class here. Registration opens August 27th but if you would like me to send you a reminder, just throw me an email (email@example.com) and I will send you an email the day it opens up :) Can’t wait to see you there!!
I don’t normally use my blog to offer my opinion or go beyond the realm of sharing shoots and what they entail. Just the facts, ma’am… just the facts ;) A couple of things happened yesterday that got me thinking though. The kind of thinking that keeps you up til the wee hours and makes you really look at what you are doing.
I had a shoot yesterday with an amazing woman. She was there to ‘assist’ me (though I am not sure that is an accurate description when I was merely capturing all the amazingness she laid out in front of me). She is young, she had a thriving photography business, she has more talent in her pinky than I will ever have and she has chosen to use it all to help others. She could be keeping it all to herself: designing, creating, shooting amazing scenes, making a name for herself and catapulting to stardom… but she isn’t. Why? Well, she has decided to put her family first (Amen.) and she realizes the ego & energy & sacrifices it would take. So, she has decided that she will use her passion to create to help others fulfill their dreams. As she said “This is my time to help others, when I am ready to do it for myself, all this good will come back to me.” Ya know what though, I don’t even think she would care if it did. She is what is a truly and genuinely giving person (it isn’t a loan until you can give back… it is selfless).
She got me thinking. Thank you’s and giving shout outs to those that help you is all nice and well but if you aren’t using what is being giving you to make something bigger and help others… what is the point? There is only so much one person can store, only so far they can go… why keep it all to yourself? There is no legacy there… pay it forward, give it back… multiply it.
I don’t know exactly how this will play out or how I will do it right. I do know that I don’t want to die with my legacy being “She was a great photographer.” I want it to be the lives I touched, the differences in other peoples’ lives I made.
So I was thinking… maybe, instead of planning our acceptance speech and the list of people to thank, we should be trying to figure out how many people we can get up on the stage with us.
In light of trying to come up with some little small token this morning, I have decided to give away a spot at one of my workshops. Or, if you can’t make it to a workshop, a phone call-skype-session-coffee date- whatever! I definitely don’t have all the answer but I do have a few resources that might help one or two of you ;) You can see all the cities I am coming to here or if you want to stay in the comfort of you own home and chat, I’m totally down for that as well. Just leave me a comment or email or send me a FB message… tell me who you are, where you want to meet me and any ideas you have for giving back (there is this great blog but I’d love to hear your ideas as well!) I will throw everyone’s name in a hat and let you know by Friday (just in case you want in to Kansas City).
Let’s do it.
santa cruz | CA (ahh… blue skies and beach time right about now sounds pretty darn amazing)
I am finally staying put for a while… it’s been super cold… I think it is time that is snowed already! haha Seriously though, I could totally go for a white Christmas. Where exactly do I put that order in? ;)
I am sure you are not here for my Christmas wishes though… want some give away info? We have a winner of the Lillipops Designs B&W Striped Dress… *drum roll* Josh Solar- email me with your info and I’ll get it right out!

I don’t know how many of you readers are from the local area but man… the last few days have made for GORGEOUS mornings. It has been cold cold but the blue skies, the icy frost covering everything, sun glistening… I have kicked myself every morning because I haven’t taken the time to take a picture. So this morning, I kicked my procrastinating rear and I did it. It didn’t really capture how cool it looked, but the fact that I actually took my camera out outside of a scheduled session is a big enough deal that I am going to share the results anyway ;) (but trust me… it really is a lovely, wintery wonderland)
This little dress is so cute… by itself, layered- edgy, girly goodness :) Just enter Punch Tab below (share the link or ‘like’ Lillipops Designs fan page for even more entries!)
